If you’ve read my last article, you know that at Semble we've collaboratively created a Culture Code that reflects our cultural drivers.
The first of these drivers is Impact. Meaning, to put it in simple terms, "We do work that matters."
I often reflect on the impact of our industry as a whole and the incredible opportunity we have to support healthcare professionals, enabling them to increase their own impact.
I remember reading a 2023 article by Dr. Dharushana Muthulingam titled 'Why Everyone Hates the Electronic Medical Record', which shook me to my core. It’s a must-read for anyone building health tech products, as it describes the frustration healthcare professionals face due to poor system design, increased admin burden and lack of interoperability. The article also touches on health equity and the systemic determinants of health - another topic I’m passionate about (but for another day!).
When you add factors like budget reductions, staff shortages and ever-increasing regulatory pressure, the risk of exhaustion grows - potentially affecting the quality of care a patient receives and their subsequent health outcomes.
As a Semble employee, knowing that we do our part in this complex, multifaceted environment to relieve healthcare workers makes a big difference when you wake up to go to work every morning.
Every time we automate a workflow or find a new way to connect care teams with their ecosystem, it’s one more step in the right direction.
But our 'Impact' driver doesn’t just shape the work we do externally; it also guides how we work internally. At Semble, we believe in accountability. We trust our team members to take ownership of their work and focus on the impact they’re having, whether it’s on the product, the team, or the broader organisation. Everyone is encouraged to make decisions, manage their own workload and think critically about how their efforts align with Semble’s mission.
We also tackle scaling challenges proactively. As a fast-growing startup things are always changing, and we focus on creating scalable solutions instead of quick fixes. This means taking the time to step back from day-to-day tasks and thinking long-term about how our systems will evolve as we grow and the impact they have on the organisation.
This is what our first cultural driver is all about: enabling health professionals to amplify their impact on their patients’ health, on their own wellbeing, on their practice, and on healthcare overall.
Impact is just one of our three cultural drivers, and our Culture Code is designed to keep us aligned with our mission and vision. We'll be discussing our two other cultural drivers, 'Collaboration' and 'Human Touch' in our upcoming blogs, so stay tuned!
